Devices = market size ÷ average order value, compounded at 10%/yr and integrated from 1 Jan 2020: Australia’s US$1 billion refurbished electronics market at a US$500 average order value. Emissions use 55 kg CO₂e of avoided production per device — smartphone lifecycle footprints run about 56–77 kg CO₂e with roughly 80% of that in manufacturing, so buying refurbished avoids most of it. Tree-years assume 21 kg CO₂ absorbed per mature tree per year. Laptops and tablets carry a materially higher footprint than phones, so a single blended factor understates the total.
